Expo 2020 Dubai has recorded about 4.8 million visits since it opened its gates to the public on October 1.

Officials said visit numbers reached 4,766,419 up to November 28, with the impressive tally driven by music, appearances by sports stars and the popularity of the November Weekday Pass.

Online visits to Expo have now reached 23.5 million.

In the past week, the Jubilee Stage has hosted Kuwaiti singer Abdullah Al Ruwaished, Egyptian singer Mohamed Hamaki and Ireland’s Grammy Award-winning performers Riverdance, who ended a run of 25 shows with a grand finale performance on Saturday.

Expo has launched a December Festive Pass for Dh95 ($25) that includes access to a concert by US singer-songwriter Alicia Keys.

The performance will take place on December 10 at Al Wasl Plaza and will feature songs from her new double album Keys.

Expo is currently hosting the World Chess Championship, with organisers saying the event has led to a surge in interest among players and fans.

The competition is the highlight of the chess calendar and world No 1 Magnus Carlsen from Norway is defending his title in a 14-game match against the winner of the Candidates Tournament, Russia’s Ian Nepomniachtchi, at Dubai Exhibition Centre.

The tournament runs until December 16, with $2.25 million in prize money.

The world’s fair continues to attract families, with plenty of entertainment at the site for younger visitors, including arts and crafts, light shows and live performances.

Expo launched a new family dining initiative on Saturday that offers a child’s meal free of charge with every adult meal. The offer is available at certain restaurants between Sundays and Wednesdays.

Among the coming highlights for visitors are the UAE’s Golden Jubilee celebrations and Christmas festivities.
