Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives donates Dh80m in aid for Gaza residents
Mohammed bin Rashid Maktoum Global Initiatives has donated Dh80 million in food and health aid for the Gaza Strip.
The organisation donated Dh43 million in direct food aid and Dh37 million to support the enclave’s health sector.
The agreements were reached on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, this week.
The food aid was announced on Tuesday, in collaboration with the World Food Programme, with an agreement signed by MBRGI secretary general Mohammed Al Gergawi and WFP executive director Cindy McCain.
This brings the total financial support contributed by the MBRGI to the WFP to Dh320 million since 2021.
Mr Al Gergawi, who is also Minister of Cabinet Affairs, and Ms McCain discussed prospects of co-operation to support disadvantaged communities and develop sustainable food projects in several countries. They also discussed the expansion of their partnership to provide food support for Gaza.
“The recent MBRGI contribution is part of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to support Palestinians and help those affected in Gaza,” said Mr Al Gergawi.
“The agreement with WFP will help extend the reach of direct food support by WFP to reach one million people in Gaza.”
Meanwhile, the funds for the health sector will be used to provide Gaza hospitals with emergency medical supplies and logistical, psychological and social support.
The agreement, announced in collaboration with the World Health Organisation on Wednesday, was signed by Mr Al Gergawi and WHO director general Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, state news agency
Wam reported. Mr Al Gergawi said the contribution embodied the UAE’s firm approach towards providing humanitarian aid to Palestinians in the besieged enclave.
Saeed Al Eter, assistant secretary general of the MBRGI, said the donation would go towards the Child Nutrition Fund, which aims to improve living conditions and provide food to 270,000 women and children globally over the next three years. It will also help to raise awareness of child malnutrition around the world.
Emirates Red Crescent continues to distribute food parcels, tents and winter clothing in the Gaza Strip.
This initiative is part of the Gallant Knight 3 humanitarian operation launched by the UAE, which has seen charity kitchens open across Rafah, Khan Younis and Deir Al Balah, providing meals to more than 100,000 displaced people.
