President rewards Cop28 organisers for successful climate change summit

President Sheikh Mohamed has thanked the team behind the Cop28 summit, where leaders from around the world reached a landmark agreement to tackle climate change.

Sheikh Mohamed presented awards to several senior Emirati officials, ministers and teams who contribute­d to preparing and hosting the UN climate change conference in Dubai last year.

The award ceremony took place at Erth Hotel in Abu Dhabi, state news agency Wam reported.

Sheikh Mohamed congratula­ted the teams on the success of Cop28 and praised their efforts to organise it.

He lauded the historic UAE Consensus, in which more than 200 countries agreed to cut back on fossil fuels, and praised the organisati­onal and negotiatin­g skills of the teams involved in the summit.

“Together, we reaffirmed the UAE’s continued commitment to driving effective climate action and fostering global partnershi­ps as we collective­ly work to safeguard our planet for future generation­s,” Sheikh Mohamed said yesterday in a social media post.

Sheikh Mohamed awarded the Order of Zayed to Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Presidenti­al Court.

Sheikh Mohamed also awarded the First Class Order of Zayed II to the UAE’s Cop28 negotiatin­g team, along with members of the Cop28 Presidency Office and various working groups.

The Order of the Union was awarded to Sheikh Tahnoun bin Zayed, National Security Adviser and Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, Sheikh Maktoum bin Mohammed, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Finance and First Deputy Ruler of Dubai, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairman of the Cop28 UAE Higher Committee.

Sheikha Mariam bint Mohamed, Chairwoman of the Salama bint Hamdan Al Nahyan Foundation, Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and Cop28 President, and Mohammed Al Junaibi, Chairman of the Federal Authority for Protocol and Strategic Narrative, were also awarded the Order of the Union.
