Abu Dhabi Fashion Days promotes local talent

-

ocal lifestyle event organiser Abu Dhabi Fashion Days has expanded into the world of mini pop-up stores. Dubbed the ADFD Closets, the quarterly events last for two weeks and feature items created by six local brands and designers.

Each brand receives two closets to showcase items for the event. “It’s kind of like a kiosk,” says ADFD founder Sumayyah Al Suwaidi. “They have their own space to sell and get to have their collections viewed by mall visitors and office workers. It’s a good way to showcase their stuff and support them.”

“ADFD [runs twice a year and] is one of the major fashion events in Abu Dhabi, meaning we get approached by companies that want to activate their spaces,” she adds. “I suggested we have closets that will support local designers to have their own sort of store in the Nation Towers for two weeks.”

Expect to find items including abayas, kaftans, dresses, accessories and even food and beverage items at this month’s pop-up event at Nation Towers. Prices typically range anywhere from Dhs500 to Dhs5,000.

Designers already on board include the brand-new label Martiza, which specialises in abayas and kaftans, and the Abu Dhabi-based Black Secret clothing line that has everything from abayas, dresses, trousers and tops. For those with a sweet tooth, Monkey Cookies has also confirmed for the event. May 4 to 20
