A new course on Yas Island for this year’s rebooted fun run

The so-called ‘World’s Brightest 5K’ run returns to the capital this month, and this year it’s taking place in a new venue and has a new name. The Electric Run is now called the Electric Run Recharged and moves from Yas Marina Circuit, the venue in 2016, to Yas Island Gateway Park. So what else is new? Participants will be given an Electro Band, an LED wristband that lights up as you take on the tree-lined course. You’ll also find themed party zones at every 1km mark around the track (with names such as Colour Brick Road, Electro Rainforest, Teddy Bear Lane and Neffmau5 Land) and music will guide you around each zone, from EDM tunes to hip hop and current chart tracks and pop classics.

The event is billed as an experience, so isn’t a timed race, although this year also sees the introduction of The Power Hour – put simply, the course will be cleared for serious runners for an hour or so from 6.30pm. There’s also an afterparty with DJs at the finish line and the music will be synced to the light show in your Electro Band wristband. Your outfit for the night will also need some attention – it’s recommended you don neon and bright colours. February 24
