Stretching before a workout isn’t beneficial and can harm your body

Stretching is essential before a workout, and an absolute must before a morning session. It warms up the muscles and lubricates the joints and tells the body (and mind) to prepare for activity. It is especially beneficial for the fascia, or connective tissue. Stretching improves flexibility, overall mobility and range of motion. Stretch areas of deep tension like the shoulders and hips, as modern life and work make these areas susceptible to tightness. I suggest stretching at any point throughout the day, especially first thing in the morning and certainly before active exercise. If someone is looking for an opportunity to learn techniques, they should go to gentle yoga or yin-style yoga, then incorporate those postures and stretches into their everyday activities.
