Arab talents use art to show the UAE’s 45-year transformation
Plenty has happened to the UAE since it was formed 45 years ago – and a group of artists has tried to sum up the nation’s incredible transformation wth Bayn: The InBetween, an exhibition at Warehouse421 in Mina Port.
The exhibition at the capital’s art hub features pieces by nine Arab talents from the region (they’re all based in the UAE), including Emiratis Sara Al Haddad and Asma Al Ahmad, Iraqi Hatem Hatem and Manal Al Dowayan, who hails from Saudi Arabia. And June is your last chance to see this exhibition, which is the third hosted by UAE Unlimited, an organisation supported by Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan.
Works on display include Calcified Landscape by Iraqi-born Hatem. He creates intricate limestone sculptures by using two tanks of water and electronic fields as salt magnets – what’s more, these limestones have been changing shape (and growing) since the exhibition began. There’s also sound artist Maytha Al Shamsi, who has created an audio piece using noises inspired by Abu Dhabi’s Maqta and Sheikh Zayed bridges. Saudi star Al Dowayan, meanwhile, is a big draw – she’s exhibited all over the world, including in San Francisco, London and in New York. Until June 18
