The pointless inclusion of an American hero (and the glaring fact that everyone in medieval China is fluent in English) leaves a tasteless mar on this otherwise mesmerising film. As 2000’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s international success proved, the world’s ready for other nations to take centre stage.
