But what the third installment of the franchise lacks in plot, it makes up for in femme fatales – weapons aficionado Serena Unger (Deepika Padukone) is our 2017 girl crush. the Northern Song Dynasty from an army of dragon-like beasts – with Matt Damon’s help, of course. The pointless inclusion of an American hero (and the glaring fact that everyone in medieval China is fluent in English) leaves a tasteless mar on this otherwise mesmerising film. As 2000’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon’s international success proved, the world’s ready for other nations to take centre stage.
