This UAE-born academy has been teaching children to swim since 2007, firstly in Dubai and then Abu Dhabi. In the capital, Hamilton run courses at three locations – GEMS American Academy in Khalifa City, the GEMS Cambridge International School and at Brighton College – and classes cover eight skills: entries and exits, movement and propulsion, co-ordination and balance, floatation, rotation, submersion, aquatic breathing, streamlining and sculling. While that might sound extreme, the classes are very friendly, and the academy has a mascot called Hammy, a cartoon hammerhead shark. Adult lessons are also available.
