You turned down a role as Cinderella – how is Belle different? “I didn’t know they were going to make Beauty And The Beast at the time I turned down Cinderella. But when they offered me Belle, I just felt the character resonated with me so much more than Cinderella did.”

Are you a fan of the original Disney animated version?

“I have loved Beauty And The Beast since I was about four years old. The movie came out the year I was born, in 1990, and I just fell in love with Belle.”

Is there another Disney character you would like to play?

“Beast – because Belle and Beast are two parts of the same whole. There is just something so interesting about the darkness in Beast – I just want to play someone who’s got that level of angst.”
