Fujairah Historic Fort

-

Set against a backdrop of mountains and a distant glistening sea, Fujairah Historic Fort is far from just another touristy castle. For a “historic” fort, Fujairah’s mud brick castle is actually relatively young, being built around 1670 – but no one really knows who built it. While it is a defensive fort, the ruling family also used to live there. It was badly damaged by a British attack in the early 20th century, but has been recently restored to its former glory. Best of all, it’s free to explore. The museum next door is worth a wander too.
