Bridgewater Tavern

There’s more to the world’s tallest hotel than fine-dining restaurants and killer views

-

When you think ‘pub’, the JW Marriott Marquis isn’t the first place that springs to mind. But that’s all set to change now that the world’s tallest hotel has added the Bridgewater Tavern to its list of venues.

Spread over two floors, the bar was surprisingly busy when we arrived, given how new it is. That might have been down to the fact that it’s a sports fan’s dream, with plenty of TVs dotted throughout; some of the tables even have in-built ice basins, so you don’t miss a second of the big game by queuing at the bar. Add this to the extensive cocktails list (dark chocolate and marmalade Old Fashioned, anyone?) and craft brews on tap, and it’s clear they’re aiming to be unique.

The ice basins are just one of many quirky touches. For example, the signature dishes all contain an element of black, most notable with the burger (Dhs85), which was served in a black brioche bun that we predict will be all over your Instagram feed soon. It’s so messy to eat that you’re even given black latex gloves and a huge plastic bib. The black wasabi shrimp (Dhs60) were similarly photogenic, but a bit bland. We say skip them and order the flaky paratha tacos instead (Dhs65), the perfect fusion of Mexican and Indian cuisine. Just as important as the food, though, are the views. Make the most of the weather and head for the outdoor terrace for lovely views of the Dubai Canal.
