The music awards that matter

The countdown is on for the Hype Music & Nightlife Awards 2017

-

Looking a bit pasty? That’s probably because you spend so much time venturing out after dark to take full advantage of the UAE’s awesome nightlife scene. But when laughing with friends in your favourite watering hole or losing your mind on the dancefloor, do you ever spare a thought for the hardworking, dedicated people that make it all happen? Our pals at Hype magazine do with the The Hype Music & Nightlife Awards. Here’s all you need to know…

What is the Hype Music & Nightlife Awards?

Now in its fourth year, the Hype Awards recognises the faces and places that make Dubai such a wonderful – and varied – playground for party people. The awards give a well-deserved pat on the back to those who’ve put their heartww and soul into pushing the nightlife scene forward, those responsible for creating amazing experiences and giving us memories that’ll be talked about for time to come.

What are the categories?

There are 18 categories covering venues, events and individuals – Best Live Venue, Best Concert and Best Festival through to Best Local Band, Best Producer, Best DJ and Best International DJ Set.

Which DJs are nominated in Best International DJ Set?

There have been so many amazing international DJs playing in Dubai over the past year that this category was extremely difficult to narrow down to ten nominees. Those that made the cut are: Loco Dice, Christian Smith, KiNK, Maceo Plex, Max Cooper, Röyksopp, Echonomist, Bill Brewster, Ben UFO and Invisibl Skratch Piklz.

Are the winners picked by public vote?

Hype magazine’s panel of experts picks the majority of winners. This involves intensive research mostly conducted on dancefloors. Boo-hoo for them, right? Three categories are open to a public vote – Best Ladies’ Night, Best Bar and Best Club. If you want to vote skip over to hypeawards.ae. But be quick, voting closes on April 5!

Where and when is the party?

It’s at Nasimi Beach, on Wednesday, April 12, and it kicks off at 7.30pm.

Can anyone go?

Yes, that’s the beauty of it. It’s your chance to rub shoulders with everyone who’s anyone in the UAE’s nightlife scene, from DJs, producers, promoters and record label bosses to talent bookers and venue managers.

Is it a stuffy sit-down dinner affair?

Hardly. It’s a right old kneesup. Think ‘friendly’ rather than ‘formal’ and ‘ lively’ rather than ‘ lame’ with cool presenters, wicked DJs and a band showcase.

How much is a ticket?

This is the best bit – entry is free! Hit up hypeawards. ae and register for two free tickets now. See you down the front! April 12
