Groundhog Deutch

Born into a Hollywood family (her mum, Lea Thompson, starred in the Back To The Future trilogy and her dad, Howard Deutch, directed Pretty In Pink), actress Zoey Deutch has already kissed James Franco in comedy Why Him? and starred opposite Robert De Niro in last year’s Dirty Grandpa – and she’s only 22. In drama Before I Fall, Zoey plays a teenager forced to relive the same day until she gets it right.

What was your gut reaction when you read the script?

“There are so many different layers – every human is a walking contradiction of themselves and I loved that this film allowed me to explore different versions of this one girl.”

Do you think that millennials are afraid of monotony?

“It’s a gift to be bored! I’ve been exercising my willpower to not look at my phone when I am in an elevator or when I am waiting for my coffee – to just exist in my environment.”

How did this experience change you as a person?

“I called three people from high school that I felt I didn’t treat well. All three of them were like, ‘I haven’t even thought about it,’ and I was like, ‘I’ve been thinking about it and I’m sorry,’ and they replied, ‘OK, weirdo….’”
