There can’t be many other locations that lend themselves to an afternoon of fine china, loose-leaf tea and bottomless scones as well as Peacock Alley. The Waldorf ’s afternoon tea concept is somewhere between a high tea and a brunch, with a small buffet of sweet treats, just-cooked morsels brought to your table, and the traditional three-tiers of sweet and savoury canapés, replenished upon request. A tea trolley is wheeled to your table, and a live jazz singer warbles in the background. The food is comfortingly familiar – the scones with clotted cream perfectly authentic – but there are some unique takes, like the hazelnut praline profiterole and sable Breton with lemon mousse.
