Compared to other Pixar powerhouses like Toy Story or Finding Nemo, the dudes-as-Nascars theme always felt naff. But then in drives this third instalment – a dark, heart-pounding tale where Lightning McQueen’s (Owen Wilson) career crashes out of control, threatening to leave a younger, high-tech model Jackson Storm free to take #95’s crown. To preserve his racing career, he seeks help from friends to train and attempt a comeback in the Florida 500. The high-octane emotion performs laps around its predecessors.
