Giggles galore

British funny woman JoJo Smith takes to The Laughter Factory stage this month

-

With radio credits, TV appearances and her own presenting gig on the chat show Funny Business, JoJo Smith’s comedy career shows no signs of slowing down. She takes to the stage in Dubai alongside Jeff Innocent and John Moloney in this month’s edition of The Laughter Factory.

You’ve had an extensive career outside of the comedy circle. How did you find the transition to the stage?

The only way my previous careers in journalism and the music business really prepared me for stand-up was that they taught me how to be behave (or not) in the public eye should fame and fortune ever come my way.

Who was your favourite comedian to sit down with on

Funny Business? Lee Evans. Twice. He was warm, honest, funny and genuine.

What can audiences expect from your upcoming tour?

JoJo at 56. I’ve recently undergone breast surgery (not the vanity kind) and I’ve got some brand spanking new material about that experience.

You’re going to head to head with John Moloney and Jeff Innocent. Any words for the competition?

I’ve known Jeff and John almost my entire comedy career (24 years). They are two lovely, passionate (about comedy, I don’t know them that well!), funny men. There’s no competition with them or with anyone because there’s only one JoJo Smith and that’s me. So I win. Every time.
