Mandela Trilogy

Cape Town Opera celebrates the incredible life of Nelson Mandela

What's On (Dubai) - - CULTURE -

The story of Nelson Mandela and his power to end apartheid is inspiring, but never has it been told quite like this. Performed by Cape Town Opera, Mandela Trilogy captures three pivotal moments in his life: the early years, where Mandela receives his tribal initiation rites on the banks of the Mbashe River; the more rebellious years of jazz and ’50s jive dancing in Sophiatown, followed by his subsequent incarceration on Robben Island; and his triumphant release in 1990. Each episode purposely uses period-specific musical compositions that capture the mood and atmosphere of his journey from freedom fighter to the president of South Africa. Expect a mix of jazz, contemporary opera and traditional African tribal music to bring to life the dramatic story of one extraordinary man. November 9 to 11
