Thor blimey!
Fans of the Aussie soap Home & Away will remember Chris Hemsworth when he played high school hottie Kim Hyde. In 2007, Chris swapped Summer Bay for Hollywood and, after a shaky start in Star Trek, scored his first box office hit as the hammer-wielding superhero Thor. Ragnarok is the third instalment.
We meet a very different Thor in this film – why did you feel the need to switch it up?
“Look, I just got bored as myself as that character. I thought, ‘Why are people going to want to see a third one?’ It can’t just be an iteration of what we’ve already done. So that’s where the idea came from: let’s cut his hair, let’s destroy his hammer.”
How did Thor’s new look affect your performance?
“When I didn’t have the wig on, I instantly felt like I could move and speak and react differently. It felt like a completely different character and that was hugely liberating.”
Have your kids clocked your superhero status yet?
“My daughter has. Once, her friend had on a Spider-Man costume, so she put on a Thor costume. Of course, she wouldn’t take it off. Thankfully there weren’t any paparazzi – you can imagine the headline: ‘Forces Child To Wear Thor Costume.’”
