RAIN ROOM: ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW
HOW MUCH WATER DOES RAIN ROOM USE?
The installation uses 1,200 litres of self-cleaning, recycled water. This is the same amount of water it takes to produce one regular hamburger in a fast food restaurant.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Thanks to eight motion sensors in the ceiling, the water pouring down halts across a six-foot radius around each person as they move through the room. You must move slowly to stay completely dry and only six people are allowed at one time, to allow the sensors to work correctly.
WHAT’S THE ARTISTIC MESSAGE?
Random International’s co-founders, Hannes Koch and Florian Ortkrass, hope visitors consider aspects of how we mechanically control every aspect of our lives. From the weather to our moods to the information we process, we live in an age of automation. As more of our life experiences are regulated externally, Rain Room wonders how far robotics will spread.
