Contours of beauty

Yes, right, beauty is skin- deep, and it always helps when you possess beauty and brains… or are a woman of substance ( that trumps everyone in the looks department right off the bat). But beauty — the sort that compelled Lord Byron to write lines like “She walks in beauty” and countless others to pen odes and sonnets ( remember Shakespeare’s ‘ Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?’ — still manages to be in your face: when you see it, you somehow believe it. This weekend, we give you the lowdown on contouring — a branch of aesthetic cosmetology — that gives your visage a whole new ( very appealing) dimension with the aid of some “highlighting” and “shadowing” techniques ( slap on, not invasive, so relax!). It’s all the rage now, and you don’t need to go under the scalpel ( for plastic surgery) in order to look swimmingly good. Is your face too round? It can be thinned down. Is your face too slender? The illusion of volume can be pumped in. Nose too bulbousy? Well, I guess you know the answer by now. Welcome to the age of contouring.

A couple of months ago, I enjoyed watching Neerja, the emotive biopic based on Pan- Am’s flight attendant Neerja Bhanot’s life. The night she gave up her life, trying to save passengers from the clutches of terrorists, she entered the portals of history. We get you Neerja’s brother to talk about his beloved sister, and how she was brought back to life — on screen. In Bollywood, it’s Asha Parekh who holds centrestage ( my uncle used to say no one ever shook her derriere as well as Ms Parekh did, and he was, of course, referring to the ‘ Aaja aaja’j number in Teesri Manzil). In Travel, surf the best surfing spots in the world.

All this and much more. Enjoy reading wknd., and have a great weekend.
