The ‘ global face of Indian stand- up’ is coming to Dubai! World- renowned comedian Papa CJ, who has performed over 2,000 shows in 20 countries, will be tickling ribs on Saturday, March 18, at Jumeirah’s Club Boudoir. The first Indian comedian to have been invited to the Just for Laughs Festival in Canada and London, he is promising an uncensored show that will have you rolling in the aisles. How do you typically start your day? Typically my day starts with me sending my husband to work and seeing my two little girls off to school, after which I am free to reply to my online messages from buyers and clients while having my morning tea.
Describe how you feel about your work in a sentence. My work is a passion which gives meaning and purpose to my life.
What is your # 1 personal principle/ success mantra at work? I believe in hard work and patience which, according to me, are the two cornerstones for being successful. There are no free lunches. I need to work harder than expected and be more patient than needed.
In your workday, what is the one thing you cannot do without? Right now my company Style Meets Elegance is mainly an online c ompany wherein I post my designs, and people from all over the world contact me for orders. So, my Internet connection and my gadgets — my ipad, my iphone and my Notepad — are what I cannot do without!
Your favourite indulgence when you need a break from work? When I am not working, I like to go out with my f amily and friends and indulge in good food. Shopping for myself and my girls is also something I love doing in my free time.
What is your favourite place to go to for a business lunch or dinner? Like I said before, my work is mostly online so I don’t really need to go out for business lunches or dinners with clients or suppliers. But other than that, if I were catching up with friends for new work ideas, we do not settle for one particular place; I love exploring new places every time.
What is your greatest dream, professionally? I have been working online, and have been a part of various exhibitions for quite sometime now. My greatest dream is to launch my own clothing line. I want to contribute positively to the industry I feel passionate about and to promote something I really believe in.
Who is your biggest role model, and why? My biggest role model is my father because of the way he has led his life by example, his selflessness and the way he instilled in me with good, solid values. I have watched him overcome great personal challenges, from which I have l earnt many i mportant l i fe l e s s o n s . H i s p o s i t i v i t y a n d encouragement are forces which make me want to achieve greater heights.
What is the last thing you ( usually) do before you go to sleep? Nighttimes are usually loaded with work — taking orders or answering queri e s a s i t ’ s t i me f or onl i ne conversations with my overseas clients who live in different time zones. After completing my todo list for the next day, I mostly indulge in reading something on fashion to broaden my horizon. The very last thing I do is say my bedtime prayer. — Staff Reporter
