I am 13 years old. I have upper lip and body hair. I also have pimples that come and go. Please suggest some remedies.

— Sadhana Take 1 tablespoon rice starch; add 1 teaspoon rice powder and half- a- teaspoon corn flour to it. This paste will help treat pimples and get rid of facial hair. Scrub off very gently when dry. Do this every day. For body hair, increase the quantity and use the same treatment. Rice starch exfoliates and firms the pores and soothes the skin. Corn flour is a skin smoothener. Rice flour gives a scrub to the skin.

I am 14 years old, and I have pimples and acne. Nothing I do seems to work. I also have split ends and frizzy hair, which is not very thick. Please suggest remedies for my problems.

— Name withheld Pimples could be due to dandruff in your hair so let’s first handle your hair. Take 2 tablespoons of yoghurt; massage into scalp and the rest of the hair ( which requires repair as the strands are frizzy and have split ends). Yoghurt works as an antibacterial treatment, and conditions and moisturises hair. For the pimples, make a mask with yoghurt and oats powder; apply a thick layer on your face. When dry, rinse with cold water. Do this every day.

I have keratin- treated hair and cannot wash it every day. But I work out almost every day, and my hair sweats a lot too — this excessive sweating is causing a lot of hair fall. Currently, I use a sulphatefree shampoo once every two to three days. Since I cannot wash my hair every day, my hair appears scanty too. In an earlier column, you’d suggested using aloe vera gel as a hair wash every day after jogging. Can you suggest a good organic brand for me and let me know if I could use it every day? I want to retain the keratin in my hair and, at the same time, do not want my hair to look limp and lifeless.

— Deepa For your regular hair wash, you may either use fresh aloe vera gel or any organic one from a nutrition shop or pharmacy. Wet hair, and massage the gel into scalp and rest of hair. Keep on for 20 to 30 minutes and rinse. You may do this every day to cleanse your scalp and give body to your hair.

My five- year- old daughter has lice in her long hair which may have come from her schoolmates. I have applied anti- lice medicine, but that’s not helping. Please suggest a remedy to clear the lice. I don’t want to cut her hair short.

— Name withheld Take a tablespoon of yoghurt; add a tablespoon of fenugreek paste to it. Apply this into every parting of her scalp. Leave on for an hour. Run a fine- tooth comb through her wet hair. This will start clearing the lice from the hair. Wash hair with a herbal shampoo afterwards. Do this twice a week to completely clear the lice.
