The 305 sits in the middle of Inov-8’s Roclite trail range, with the 290 being lighter and the 325 having a stronger, boot-like construction. All have 6mm studs on the sole for off-road grip, and the 305 has an 8mm drop and plenty of cushioning to give a neutral ride for tough terrain. The claw-shaped studs provided a sturdy grip on some particularly treacherous trails, and their shape and location on the sole means the mud doesn’t get stuck in the gaps. They’re also very easy to clean. Although we’d appreciate the lighter 290 shoe for off-road racing and light trails, the 305 arguably has more mass appeal due to the greater level of support and wet-weather protection. At £115 they’re a significant spend, particularly if your focus is road running, but the Roclites are built to last and are versatile for anything from mixed terrain to fell running.
