The snappily named EM Road N1 is the more supportive cousin of the EM Road N0, coming in 60g heavier at 270g. Most of that weight is found in the larger outsole unit and thicker upper. We found grip was compromised in the N0 but the N1 has a slightly larger landing platform, which gave us more confidence in slippery conditions. The ride is very smooth and, although we measured the drop as 7mm, the suppleness of the shoe makes you feel lower to the ground. The 3D seamless upper is sock-like and, although it’s not ideal for running in the wet, it feels light and airy. This wouldn’t be a racer of choice for fast runners with a neutral gait, but would be well served as a comfortable shoe for long-distance triathlons and standalone marathons.
