BRUTALFEST LAUNCHED

New triathlon weekend set for the Lakes in September

-

Anew festival-style weekend of multisport races and workshops has been created by the organisers of the Brutal triathlons. BrutalFest will take place at Park Foot on the banks of Ullswater in the Lake District from 9-10 September and will be a mix of single-discipline events, a wealth of triathlon races, talks and workshops.

The Saturday 9th) will see 2.5km, 5km and 10km lake swims, a family fun run, 5km and 10km run races, as well as a 5km night run. The Sunday 10th), will host sprint-, standard- and middle-distance tris, 2.5km and 5km swims and a half-marathon run, all taking place in and around Ullswater.

The ultra triathlete and Brutal Events founder, Claire Smith, sees the various events as acting as an introduction to hardcore triathlons. “The feedback we get from athletes is that they can be intimated by events of a tougher nature. My goal is to encourage more swimmers, runners and triathletes to embrace the lakes, hills and mountains and realise that you can do anything if you really want to.”

Smith’s other races include October’s Deca UK iron-distance event at Dorney Lake, June’s Pig Ultra Duathlon in Dolgellau, North Wales, and September’s Brutal Extreme Triathlon in Llanberis, North Wales, which was named

220’ s toughest triathlon in the world in 2016.

The adventurer Sean Conway and 400+ triathlon finisher Mark Kleanthous have already been announced as two of the speakers at BrutalFest, with camping also available on site. Head to brutalfest.co.uk for more.
