I’ve managed many setbacks over my life but the key is to believe in yourself, even when others don’t. If you can feel an injury, then you have to stop and listen; your body is an amazing thing and can’t be replaced as easily as a new pair of trainers.

HAVE A PLAN

Having a plan in place and a clear direction of where you’re wanting to go during the season will fuel the fire and motivate you to be the best you can be.

UNDERSTAND YOUR INNER CHIMP

The mind can really twist things and make you think or feel things that aren’t true. Understand­ing what aggravates your chimp deep inside you can really help you become a more focused athlete.

BE RACE READY

Developing a racing attitude is no different to learning to swim, bike or run; it’s something that can be mastered. Don’t compare yourself to other people as it’ll only derail you from your own mission.
