JAMES’ BRUTAL TIPS
1
Train alone. You’ll be spending a lot of time on your own in some very dark places. Even with a crew, don’t rely on them being there all the time.
2
Preparation of kit, food and scenarios is everything. Don’t leave anything to chance. This isn’t the race to try new things.
3
Hit the hills on your bike and on foot. And get some poles.
4
Swim cold. Get used to your wetsuit and then ditch it. Find the coldest lakes, rivers and seas and spend time in them.
5
Put yourself in uncomfortable places when you train – hunger, cold, wet or pure distance – and find a way to survive. Discover what makes you tick and can drive you through.
