In 1991 I was the first vet over 50 to finish the Ironbridge Ironman Triathlon. Along with the other finishers, I received the wonderful and substantial iron medal cast by the original foundry, who I understand constructed the beautiful Ironbridge.

My medal was a prized possession, but unfortunately it was lost during a house move. I tried to locate it without success and even looked for one on eBay. As a last attempt I contacted Georgina Grant of the Ironbridge Museum and she kindly referred me to the foundry manager Roger Fewtrell, who offered to try and help. He searched their records and found the original pattern for the medal. He then surprised me further by offering to cast a medal for me. Roger was as good as his word and the medal is now in a safe place in my home.

I’m so grateful to them and I think a mention in 2200 would be a very nice gesture. Your August issue in 1991 details the race and even pictures the medal. Doug (an old triathlete!)
