LAZER BULLET
£199.99 We run the rule over Lazer’s latest aero lid
T he Lazer Bullet is an aero helmet that’s available in two options. There’s the ‘basic’ one reviewed here plus the ‘topend’ version, which features the increasingly essential MIPS (Multidirectional Impact Protection System), a low-friction layer that enables the helmet to decrease the angle of impact against the brain.
When you first put it on, the fairly weighty 315g Bullet feels a bit bulky on your head. But we’ve gotten used to its shape pretty quickly... and have even started to really like it. It provides you with a very comfortable fit and, with the rear dial, it’s also easy to find a secure fit. But the main feature of this helmet is Lazer’s do-it-yourself Airslide ventilation system. The Bullet comes with four different ‘lids’ that can be combined to make the helmet more aero (with a fully closed system), half-aero (partly closed in the front, but open in the back), and full open ventilation system – which is actually still very aerodynamic.
Overall, it’s a helmet we highly recommend. Its only downsides are that it can slightly overheat your head, even at high altitudes and in cold conditions (we used it on the 90km bike leg at the Israman, see p100) and that the chin strap isn’t especially comfortable. When it’s tightened up it remains quite loose and flaps around, so we had to make a further knot in it to keep the strap in place.
