PACING MASTERCLASS
MONITOR PACE
Using a sports watch, see how your pace changes during the second 1km effort. Use this to work out how well you might maintain that pace over your race distance and set race pace accordingly.
PLAN AHEAD
When you know what pace you plan on holding for your race you can make decisions about your training in the leadup. Look at the course to see if this is a manageable pace (hills, surface, etc.).
TRAIN YOUR STOMACH
Test nutrition in this session to both help fuel the big effort and also see if you can tolerate it while working hard. The more you practise and adapt in training, the smoother your race will be.
