Swimrun events, such as ÖtillÖ and Breca, aquathlons and biathlon have become popular multisport formats. But can the training required for this sort of racing enhance triathlon performanc­e? Absolutely!

Adding swimrun brick or interval sessions into your training mix will help to develop specific transition skills; improve your pace awareness, fitness and ability to move fast from one discipline to the next; help you to hold technique when fatigued; and are really bloody great fun! If you’re looking to develop specific speed, then focus on shorter intervals and short aquathlon or biathle events, which target short-course threshold race fitness and above. If you’re racing long course or are looking to develop your speed endurance, then focus on the continuous, longer swimrun events and training sets.

Mixing it up adds great training variety, is motivation­al and can take you to some amazing race-day settings. What are you waiting for?!
