There are few, arguably any, more beautiful and atmospheric colonial cities in South America than Cartagena in Colombia. Set on the country’s northern coast, the city is home to a Unesco World Heritagedesignated old town and one of Ironman’s most inviting races. After a non-wetsuit 1.9km swim in the 28°C waters of Bahía de las Ánimas, the 90km bike takes in the highway to Barranquilla before a 21km run flanked by views of the Caribbean.
