THE ULTIMATE TEST

On 15 August 2019, you could be taking on the iconic Embrunman triathlon in the French Haute Alps

-

There are long-distance triathlons, and then there’s the one they call the ‘The Beast’. Embrunman began back in 1984 as a 750m swim, a 30km bike ride and 10km run – a gentle workout by the standards of today’s race. Over the years, the distance has lengthened, the climbs have been made even more brutal and the physical achievement of finishing has become all the more epic.

The cycling section includes the famous Côte de Chalvet climb, giving it an ascent of more than 3,600m. There’s also a considerable 875m of ascent in the run. Make no mistake, the Embrunman is as tough as it gets, which is why it’s one of the most popular events in Europe, with thousands of elite athletes competing every year.

A short-distance triathlon was added in 1988, and this course has since gone on to host a stage at the Triathlon World Cup on multiple occasions. With a 1.5km swim, 44km bike ride and 10km run, it’s an incredible opportunity to compete in Embrun, a spectacular alpine setting.

Along the way you’ll be supplied with all the right drinks and snacks to keep you going, including water, energy drinks, fruit and energy bars. And as you cross the line, you’ll be greeted with the sweetest rewards of all – a beer, a sandwich and chips.

Embrunman is both the challenge and reward of a lifetime, so ask yourself: do you have what it takes?
