SPEKTRUM BLANK
£135 Swedish sunnies with mountain credentials
Spektrum may be a new name to you but, developed by a group of Swedes enjoying mountain life in Åre, northern Sweden, these sunnies come from a brand with snow sports heritage. With a similar uni-lens design to the Roka Matadors on the right and weighing a quoted 30g, the similarities are obvious. These have lost the lower part of the frame, though, and feature a less ‘unusual’ shape, although the lenses are less wide or wrapped than Roka’s – so it boils down to which look you prefer and where you want the most visibility, especially when riding on the aerobars or drops. These didn’t quite have the grip of the Rokas, however.
Our pair were supplied with infrared lenses, again for strong sunlight (six options are available, and you can buy extra lenses from £45) and it’s in the Carl Zeisssupplied lenses that these really shone, giving excellent clarity and really enhancing our vision and visibility on the bike and run. Plus, the frames are made from ‘BioGrilamid’, a sustainable material, and – if you’re prone to losing your sunnies – that lower retail price might just sweeten the choice between these two superb pairs of cutting-edge sunnies.
