INOV-8 OROC 270
£150 Inov-8 have elevated the great grip of their graphene X-Talon shoe to vice-like magnitude with the Oroc 270 thanks to the Twin-Spike tech. In short, they’ve added two spikes that protrude from each 5mm rubber stud. Spikes are more common with orienteering, where adventure racers are looking for the shortest route between two points, but spikes usually come in the singular. Inov-8’s doubled up for greater traction and these are unquestionably the grippiest shoes we’ve ever tried. They come into their own in the wet yet are surprisingly comfy on firmer trails. But on the tarmac between home and the trails? A studded nightmare. And that highlights that these are extremely specific for the job – for orienteering triathletes or those who adore the fells all-year round. As for other features, they’re quick, comfy and pretty light at 292g (UK 10.5) for a shoe loaded with spikes. A protection plate on the toe gives added durability. inov-8.com
