Stay straight

Swim lengths over the centre line of your (outdoor!) pool lane. Get a feel for your arms pulling in line, keeping your body parallel to the line on the bottom.

Focus on keeping your core engaged and a straight line between hand, shoulder, hip and to your legs. It helps to stop you overreachi­ng.

Paddle like the dog

Doggie paddle is a great drill for watching what your hands are doing under water, to make sure that they’re both doing the same thing.
