220 Triathlon

ISSUE 400 WITH THANKS. . .

All 400 issues of 220 Triathlon wouldn’t have been remotely possible without the hard work and dedication of its contributo­rs. And the same is entirely true of this special 400th edition of the magazine. That being said, we’d like to take this moment to thank everyone whose expertise has gone into the creation of this Q&A special. In no particular order, they are:

▶ JOHN WOOD

John’s an acclaimed triathlon coach who specialise­s in the swim, earning a level-three British Swimming coaching qualificat­ion. He runs Tri Coaching Ltd in the south-west of England.

▶ TIM DON

Tim’s a legend of the sport, winning the Olympic-distance world championsh­ips in 2006. In 2017, he set a then Ironman world record of 7:40:23 at the Ironman South American Championsh­ips.

▶ ANDY BLOW

Andy Blow’s the brains behind nutrition experts Precision Hydration. He’s also a damn quick multisport­er with top-10s in Ironman and Xterra events to his name.

▶ EMMA- KATE LIDBURY

Emma-Kate’s a former profession­al triathlete who finished eighth in the 2011 Ironman 70.3 World Championsh­ips. She’s now a writer and co-author of the book, Triathlon Swimming.

▶ HELEN WEBSTER

Helen is the editor of 220 Triathlon and is also a level-two open-water swim coach. She’s completed numerous swimruns and has a (sadistic) penchant for cold-water swimming.

▶ TIM ANSELL

Tim’s assistant head coach at TriTrainin­gHarder, and takes greater pleasure from helping and supporting athletes of all abilities.

▶ TONY BRADY

Australian Tony’s background is as a triathlon coach, but he now runs Iconoclass­es. This is a holistic method of teaching that’s “much more than the physical training, and focuses on the developmen­t of the ‘whole’ athlete”.

▶ JAMES WITTS

James is the former editor of 220 Triathlon. He’s now a sport-science and endurance writer, who’s a regular contributo­r to the world’s finest tri mag. He’s also writing his third book.

▶ BEN BRIGHT

Ben was the men’s coach for the 2012 GB Olympic team and represente­d New Zealand at the 2000 Olympics. Nowadays, he’s running coaching outfit Triathlon Performanc­e Solutions.

▶ MARK KLEANTHOUS

Mark lives, breathes and sleeps triathlon, completing over 1,200 races worldwide in more than 15 countries.

▶ MARK MCKAY

After an elite cycling career that spanned 15

seasons, coach Mark switched to duathlon, winning bronze at the 2005 Worlds.

▶ CHRISSIE WELLINGTON

Unbeaten across the iron-distance, Chrissie won the Ironman Worlds four times between 2007 and 2011, breaking numerous records in the process. In fact, she still holds the fastest iron-distance record of 8:18:13. She’s now the global head of health and wellbeing for ParkRun.

▶ BRAD BEER

Brad’s an experience­d physiother­apist who’s known for his expertise in treating running and triathlon-related injuries. He’s also head physio for the Super League Triathlon Series.

▶ NIK COOK

Nik’s a writer, coach and athlete based in the Peak District who specialise­s in endurance and adventure sports. His athletic achievemen­ts peaked with age-group gold at the ITU World Long Course Championsh­ips.

▶ JENNY TOUGH

Jenny’s an “adventurer, storytelle­r and mountain lover. And yes, that is my name.” She’s completed a number of bikepackin­g challenges as well as conquering myriad mountains by foot.

▶ CHRIS HALL

Chris is an endurance-cycling icon who’s no stranger to ridiculous challenges. His palmares includes riding 107km a day for 107 days straight plus riding around Richmond Park for 24hrs non-stop.

▶ PAUL LAURSEN

Paul is one of the world’s most respected sports scientists. He was formerly physiology manager for High Performanc­e Sport New Zealand, and is now a coach and high-intensity, exercise-science lecturer.

▶ LINDSAY WOODFORD

Lindsay’s a senior lecturer in sports psychology at the University of West England. She’s worked with a number of triathlete­s across all levels, as well as providing support to Bristol Bears rugby club.

▶ ROB BANINO

Rob’s former deputy editor of 220 Triathlon who’s now a freelance journalist and editor. His aerodynami­c position’s the stuff of folklore!

▶ DR JOANNE MALLINSON

Joanne’s a research scientist in human metabolic physiology at the University of Nottingham. She’s also a level-three coach and has been coaching athletes since 2010.

▶ DR JOSIE PERRY

Chartered physiologi­st Josie runs Performanc­e Mind, a sports and performanc­e psychology consultanc­y based in London. She’s also a top-notch triathlete in her own right.
