-

A NEW pub and restaurant was forced to close temporarily after travellers moved onto its car park.

Police said they were called to the newly opened Brickworks on Hyndburn Road in Accrington at around 10.30pm on Friday, July 24 after several trailers arrived on the site.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said they also responded to reports of fighting between travellers inside the pub who were removed by staff.

The Brickworks posted on their Facebook page on the morning of Saturday, July 25: “To all our loyal customers, due to unforeseen circumstances we are closed. Please be patient, your safety is our utmost importance.”

Later the same day they posted: “Sorry for any inconvenience caused by our closure today.

“The brickworks will be open tomorrow (Sunday) from 11.”

The Brickworks, on the site of the former Arnold Clarke garage, was opened by Carnival Queen Bethany Donohue and Carnival Princess Ellie Walsh on Monday, July 20.

Run by Martson’s Inns and Taverns, the facility has created 50 full and part-time local jobs.

John Milnes, manager of the Brickworks said: “Following the incident on Friday evening, we temporarily closed for the safety of our customers and staff. We reopened on Sunday and business is now running as usual. We thank the community of Accrington for supporting us and we look forward to welcoming our customers back soon.”

The travellers have since left the carpark. Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101.
