Pub has to shut as trav­ellers move in

A NEW pub and res­tau­rant was forced to close tem­po­rar­ily af­ter trav­ellers moved onto its car park.

Po­lice said they were called to the newly opened Brick­works on Hyn­d­burn Road in Ac­cring­ton at around 10.30pm on Fri­day, July 24 af­ter sev­eral trail­ers ar­rived on the site.

A Lan­cashire Po­lice spokesper­son said they also re­sponded to re­ports of fight­ing be­tween trav­ellers in­side the pub who were re­moved by staff.

The Brick­works posted on their Face­book page on the morn­ing of Satur­day, July 25: “To all our loyal cus­tomers, due to un­fore­seen cir­cum­stances we are closed. Please be pa­tient, your safety is our ut­most im­por­tance.”

Later the same day they posted: “Sorry for any in­con­ve­nience caused by our clo­sure to­day.

“The brick­works will be open to­mor­row (Sun­day) from 11.”

The Brick­works, on the site of the for­mer Arnold Clarke garage, was opened by Car­ni­val Queen Bethany Dono­hue and Car­ni­val Princess El­lie Walsh on Mon­day, July 20.

Run by Mart­son’s Inns and Tav­erns, the fa­cil­ity has cre­ated 50 full and part-time lo­cal jobs.

John Milnes, man­ager of the Brick­works said: “Fol­low­ing the in­ci­dent on Fri­day evening, we tem­po­rar­ily closed for the safety of our cus­tomers and staff. We re­opened on Sun­day and busi­ness is now run­ning as usual. We thank the com­mu­nity of Ac­cring­ton for sup­port­ing us and we look for­ward to wel­com­ing our cus­tomers back soon.”

The trav­ellers have since left the carpark. Any­one with in­for­ma­tion is asked to call po­lice on 101.
