Dog walk proposals

-

NEW proposals restricting where people can walk dogs are being proposed by Hyndburn Council.

Cabinet members voted in favour of holding a public consultation into excluding dogs from a number of sites including children’s play facilities and council sports pitches.

Councillor Ken Moss said there is a current list of places where dogs are banned. He said: “We are looking to expand that list and increase powers of keeping dogs on leads in cemeteries and on sports fields.” Coun Paul Cox said he felt it was a good time to review what the council already had in place.

He said: “Environmental Health will be doing the enforcing on this, it’s an ideal opportunity to look at improving. what we have in place.” Proposals would require dog owners to keep their pets on leads in designated town centre areas in Accrington and in each of the townships, and the continuation of the requirement for dogs to be kept on leads in the three borough cemeteries.

Opposition leader Coun Tony Dobson said they welcomed the move.
