Former brickie makes the cut

-

A BRICKLAYER has thrown in the trowel – and picked up the razor.

Huncoat man Alistair Fitzharris now runs his own barber shop above his mum’s hairdressers, Fitzy’s in Abbey Street, Accrington.

The 22-year-old had wanted to become an architect after leaving school but didn’t get the grades to go on to study the subject at university.

Instead he took up brick-laying when he left Mount Carmel High School, hoping to work his way up to becoming an architect.

He said: “Brick-laying wasn’t for me so I started working at my mum’s hairdressers, making brews and sweeping up hair.

“Then I decided to get qualified as a barber.”

Alistair went on a three-year course at the Joseph Lanzante Training Academy before setting up Fitzy’s Barbers.

He said: “I really love it and can’t see myself doing anything else.

“It doesn’t feel like a job at all.”

Joseph Lanzante, who trained Alistair, said he had been one of the star students at his training academy.

He said: “I am proud to see him go on to be so successful.”
