Music event to mark festival
A MUSIC evening has been organised to mark a church’s Patronal Festival celebrations.
The worship group and choir at St Bartholomew’s Church in Great Harwood will perform ‘City of Gold’ which is a contemporary collection of music, poetry and pros.
Organisers said it will combine to give an “Impression of Heaven”. The music and songs are by Phil Baggaley, Dave Clifton and Ian Blyth and the poems and prose are by Adrian Plass and John Bunyan.
Cynthia Parkinson, church administrator, said: “Bunyan’s classic book ‘The Pilgrim’s Progress’ is used several times to describe both the journey to heaven and the sights which faced the pilgrims when they arrived at the gates.
“The contemporary style of music, songs and poetry has appealed to a wide audience and given many people the opportunity to talk about their ideas of what heaven is like, whether that’s a cricket match, a playground or a sunny afternoon flying a kite.
“We invite you to join us and experience our impression of heaven.”
The event will be held on Sunday, August 30 from 6pm and there will be a retiring collection.
