Two in hospital after separate car crashes

TWO people had to be taken to hospital following separate serious collisions within hours of each other in Oswaldtwistle.
A man in his 70s was airlifted to Royal Blackburn Hospital after a car overturned on Thwaites Road near White Ash School on Monday, June 6. Only one car is believed to have been involved in the incident, which happened at around 10.30am.
John Taylor, spokesman for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service, said: “We received a call at around 10.35am and two crews from Accrington were sent out to the incident.
“We got the call from the Ambulance Service. It was reported that the car had overturned and there was a man trapped inside.
“When crews arrived the car was overturned but no-one was trapped and no rescue was needed.”
Road closures were put in place at the junction on Union Road and Thwaites Road. A spokesperson from Lancashire Police said: “We were called just after 10.30am to reports of an accident on Thwaites Road outside White Ash Primary School.
“There was a car on its side and a person inside was trapped. The fire service were in attendance.
“An air ambulance arrived to take the man to Royal Blackburn Hospital. His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.”
Later that same afternoon a 25-year-old woman was taken to hospital after a second car collision in the town.
Emergency services, including an air ambulance, were called to New Lane at around 3.30pm.
Lancashire Police said the collision involved a white Ford and a grey Peugeot near Immanuel Church.
A Hyndburn fire station spokesperson said: “A crew from Hyndburn and a crew from Blackburn attended a road traffic accident on New Lane, Oswaldtwistle involving two cars.
“A female occupant had to be cut free by firefight- ers. The injuries of the female are not thought to be life threatening.”
Oswaldtwistle councillor Peter Britcliffe, who lives on New Lane and was a witness, said: “It looked like quite a nasty and dramatic collision.
“One can only hope the young lady involved was not hurt too badly.”
