Takeaway is closed for fire repairs

-

A CHINESE takeaway has been forced to temporarily close for repairs after being damaged by fire.

Three fire crews from Hyndburn and Great Harwood and an aerial ladder platform from Preston were called to Wongs takeaway on Blackburn Road in Great Harwood at around 4.30pm on Friday, June 3.

Lancashire Police closed off Blackburn Road from Rushton Street to James Street with traffic being diverted.

The takeaway remains closed for repairs and bosses said they are unsure when they will reopen.

A spokesperson for Wongs said: “It’s one of those things. We have been here for 30 years as a family business and it’s the first time anything like this has happened to us.

“There is not much can do about it now. We are still in the process of getting everything sorted out. We have not reopened yet. There is still damage that needs to be repaired.

“We have no idea when we will reopen. It depends how quickly things move along.”

Dozens of residents and passers-by gathered at the scene as the fire took hold.

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “When firefighters arrived there was a fire involving a cooking range which had spread to the ceiling.

“Crews used one hose reel and four breathing apparatus sets to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters were at the scene for two hours. There were no injuries.”
