-

Beth Chandler

Which theatre company are you involved with?:

ReAct Academy of Theatre Arts.

Are you taking part in any productions at the moment?:

Yes, Les Miserables which we are performing this June.

Who is your character in the production?:

Eponine. I play

How long have you been with the society for?:

Five years, but this is my eighth show with them.

What do you like about the character you are currently playing?:

I love that she’s tough. She has to look after herself and she puts her own life in danger to protect others. She doesn’t think twice about joining the rebellion and climbing over the barricade to be with Marius. Many can relate to her as the girl who doesn’t get the boy she loves and I’m really excited to bring her to life on stage.

Have you been in any other productions?:

Yes, lots. This is my eighth production with ReAct Academy of Theatre Arts. Previously I’ve played The Witch in Into The Woods, Gabriella in High School Musical, Ursula in Disney’s the Little Mermaid as well as a Widow Twankey in Aladdin and I’ve been in concerts too.

Who is your favourite actor and why?:

James McAvoy and Lea Salonga.

If you could play any part what would it be and why?:

I have to say Eponine has always been the role I wanted to play. I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to play her in this production.

Are you involved in any other projects at the moment?:

I have a lot of exams at the moment and I have just completed my Grade 8 Musical Theatre solo and Grade 7 Acting solo LAMDA exams with ReAct Academy so that, along with Lés Miserables, is keeping me very busy.

What do you most enjoy about doing this?:

The music in Les Miserables is just incredible. Getting to sing such iconic songs and listen to the amazing score each week is definitely my favourite part of the rehearsals. We also have an extremely talented cast and I feel very lucky to be part of the show with them.

Any memorable/funny moments or highlights from this?:

We were treated to a masterclass with Andy Reiss who directed Les Miserables professionally for a long time and also starred in it. He came up and did lots of work with us. He is also coming to watch the show, so we are all excited about that.

Les Miserables is being staged at The Civic Theatre, Oswaldtwistle from Thursday, June 23 to Saturday, June 25. Tickets for Lés Miserables are available from www. reactacademy.co.uk, by calling 01254 883692 or by visiting The Civic Theatre Box Office, Union Road, Oswaldtwistle.
