Industrial waste dumped in spate of flytipping in village
A HUNCOAT councillor has hit out after a spate of fly-tipping in the village.
Bags of industrial and building waste have been dumped outside the old power station off Altham Lane, and on spare land at the end of Within Grove.
The rubbish includes broken furniture, lumps of concrete and used building supplies.
Huncoat councillor Eamonn Higgins was alerted to the fly-tipping, and has reported both incidences to Hyndburn council’s waste department.
Council enforcement officers from are now investigating both cases.
Coun Paul Cox, cabinet member for environmental issues, said: “Our crews have already removed the first fly-tipped rubbish at this site and will pick up the second soon.
“Enforcement teams will investigate if there is enough evidence to take action.”
Coun Higgins said: “A lot of rubbish is being dumped outside the gates of the old power station.
“It’s such a shame because you can take up to ten bags to the landfill site at Whinney Hill free of charge.
“You can also get a free permit from Lancashire County Council for industrial waste.
“People don’t seem to realise that there’s no charge and leave rubbish all over instead. It doesn’t make the place look good.”
