Festival fun with the Pendle triathletes

IT’S been a busy month for members of Pendle Tri Club.
The month started with the Pendle Triathlon Festival which included four different events. These events were sponsored by local firms Razamataz, GoVelo and Outdoor Resources and included a fun noncompetitive event for children.
On Sunday three different events took place at West Craven Sports Centre and in the surrounding area.
These were the Traditional distance event consisting of 750m swim, 22km cycle and a 5km run, a sprint triathlon event consisting of 400m swim, 22km cycle and a 5km run and a GoTri Event consisting of 250m swim, 11km cycle and a 2.5km run.
The sprint distance event was also part of the Triathlon England North West Adult Series.
Over the two days the events attracted nearly 200 competitors.
Steven Gregory, from Rossendale Tri Club, won the Traditional distance event in a time of 01:10:32.35 and the fastest female was Sarah Vickers, Calderdale Tri Club in 01:17:38.15.
The fastest local male was Emmanuel Cruz, Pendle Tri Club, (01:20:46.70) and the quickest local female was Gill Robinson, Pendle Tri Club, (01:40:56.80).
Three teams also competed in this event and the team that won this event came from GoVelo.
The slightly shorter Sprint distance event was won by Martin Cain of Tri Guro Triathlon Club, (01:02:31.95) with the fastest female being Angela Knowles (01:14:52.75). Coming third in the women’s race was Pendle Tri Club member Sally Tidswell (01:24:59.05)
The GoVelo GoTri event was won by Tony Robinson from Pendle Tri Club (00:44:08.45) and the fastest lady was Victoria Crowley (00:44:28.15)
Club members have also attended Triathlon event in Wilmslow and St Anne’s during May and on the final weekend in May quite a few club members tackled the more challenging event in Rossendale.
David Mirfield, won the event in 1:03:35
