Emma, seven, says goodbye to her locks in cancer charity chop

-

A YOUNG girl from Rishton has said goodbye to her long locks in support of a charity which helps children suffering hair loss.

Emma Torrance, seven, had grown her hair for nearly two years to get enough to cut off and donate to the Little Princess Trust.

The St Peter and St Paul’s primary pupil has now sent off 14 inches of hair to the Trust, which provides real wigs to boys and girls across the UK who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

Emma’s mum Julie said she is ‘really proud’.

Julie, 28, said: “She has always had quite long hair anyway and she wanted to get it cut short.

“I suggested to her why not donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

“Her hair was actually too short at the time to donate and I thought there was no point in just getting it cut as it would be such a waste. She has been growing her hair now for about two years in the build-up to actually donating it.

“We weren’t going to raise money but after reading the information pack I found out that making the wigs themselves costs on average £350.

“So we did an online sponsorship with a target of £350. We have broken that and I have cash still coming in.”

Emma went to Louis George hairdressers on High Street to have her locks cut and was also supported by her father Graeme, three-year-old brother Liam and grandparents Bella and Mark Conboy.

Julie said: “I’m really pleased and proud of her. Everyone has been saying how brave she is.”
