School to the rescue for annual WI show

-

ORGANISERS of an annual Women’s Institute show have thanked a Clayton-le-Moors primary school for helping to save their event.

The Clitheroe Area WI Show were left without a venue for this year’s festivities after Edisford Primary School could not host it due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’.

The show will now take place at All Saints Primary on Saturday, July 30 from 10am to 4.30pm.

Chris Newhouse, member of the show committee, said: “Following notification that the planned venue for the Clitheroe Area WI Show was no longer available, the committee held an emergency meeting.

“Luckily one phone call came up trumps – All Saints Primary School on Winckley Road. Finding somewhere with room for 2,000 exhibits, plus areas for sales, refreshments and parking for visitors and exhibitors was not easy. But the committee representing 15 local Women’s Institutes were determined the show would go on and know the members will work just as hard to set up the event and enter exhibits to the usual high standard.”

The show will feature 55 different classes from ‘Give it a Whirl’ flower arranging to the co-operative entry ‘Street Party’, crafts and a new class for book folding.

There will also be a variety of shopping stalls selling a wide range of products.

Refreshments, a raffle and ‘have-a-go’ origami will also be available.

Entry costs £2.50 and trophies will be presented at 2pm to the child with the most points in the children’s section.

The show began in 1968 following the demise of Clitheroe Agricultural Show.
