Huncoat companies win big at the first local business awards
TWO firms based at Huncoat business park were left celebrating after being honoured at the borough’s inaugural business awards.
Gaffey Technical Services and Admagnetics, both based at Huncoat Business Park, picked up wins at the glitzy ceremony held at the Accrington Town Hall ballroom on Tuesday, June 14.
Admagnetics, manufacturer of bespoke transformers and standby power equipment walked away with the ‘Made in Hyndburn’ award, triumphing over neighbour Gaffey Technical Services and fellow Altham competitor Simon Jersey.
Angela Sharples, director of the company – which has been in Huncoat since 1991 – was on hand to receive the award from Andrew McLaughlian, from sponsor Emerson and Renwick.
Angela said she and her team had a fantastic night.
She said: “We were absolutely surprised but really pleased, we didn’t expect to win anything – we were just pleased to be in the finals. It’s the first award we’ve won for a long, long time. We’re really pleased, it was a wonderful surprise.”
Family company Gaffey, which specialises in water treatment and manufacture control and treatment systems, managed to scoop a win on the night with the Small Business award.
The firm, founded in 1986, held off competition from Accrington Stanley Community Trust, Bevlan Office Interiors and Community Solutions North West. Hannah Gaffey was on stage to receive the award from Rachel Kay of sponsor lovelocalnetworking.
UK sales manager Bill McDowall attended the awards ceremony.
He said: “It was totally unexpected. We don’t even know who nominated us – it’s very strange but we must be doing something right.
“The whole night was fantastic because everything just went like clockwork. Even if we hadn’t won anything it was great, but it was nice to get recognition for the amount of hard work that the team have put in over the last 12 months. The award and certificates are now all up in reception. We’re very, very proud.”
